In April 2001, Cally Gardens was delighted to be the subject of an exhibition: ‘Gardens & Artists’. This project was the result of a year-long involvement with 6 Galloway based artists, and arose from an initial proposal by David Eyre. David, a working artist and neighbour to the gardens, recognised two outstanding assets of this region; talented artists and craftsmen, and a rich heritage of plants and gardens. Seeking to bring the two together, he proposed a ‘Galloway Gardens Artist Scheme’, resulting in this first exhibition in 2001. Sadly, David died shortly before the exhibition opened, but we are keen that his ideas should continue, and warmly welcome any artists who wish to work in the garden.
